WCIW: Meet Meg Platt-Aguilera & Kylee Montoya

Welcome to this week's WCIW, where we interview one of our community members from Instagram. Today's guests are digital creators and Etsy shop owners, Meg Platt-Aguilera & Kylee Montoya.

1. What are your names?

Meg Platt-Aguilera & Kylee Montoya

2. What’s the name of your business?

Mainstreet Magic Shopp– We offer handmade tshirts that are bleached with designs as well as ornaments, handmade blankets, Tie-dye Pillow Cases among other things.

3. What type of content do you produce?

I am a digital creator with @mediacreationsbymeg on instagram (designs for Mainstreet Magic Shopp are from my person business)

4. Let's get to know you! Tell us 3 facts about yourself

Fact 1: We are 23

Fact 2: We are both disney fanatics

Fact 3: We both love dogs

5. What inspired you to start your own bizz?

With the state of our country during this awful COVID-19 era I (meg) had lost my job so I wanted to figure out a way to work without going out and being around a bunch of people and wanted to be able to create my own hours since I have dealt with bad anxiety since everything started and Kylee had a previous etsy shop called Electric Ears so she already had an idea of how etsy worked and we just decided what the heck might as well give it a go and see what happens.

6. Where do you find your motivation?

Family and friends. In general, who doesn’t want to be successful? I wanted to give myself a sense of accomplishment during a particularly trying time and see if I could make Lemonade out of lemons

7. What do you do to feel more inspired/motivated on the days that can feel a little mundane?

I usually if I have nothing going on will give myself a day to just be like you know what you’re doing your best. It’s not been a great year but we are making the best out of it and here’s hoping that tomorrow will be better. Also will go on pinterest during those days to get some new fun ideas 🙂

8. What are some daily revenue-generating activities that really move the needle in your bizz?

Well I try to post on social media as much as I possibly can although I am the sole person that works on the social media account so it gets very hard sometimes and I’m constantly thinking of ideas for the future of our shop and how to make it better and how to make more things that people want to buy. It’s a constant struggle but hopefully in a year when we have everything under control it will become just a bit easier to design things once we have all the machinery we need.

9. What kind of tasks are better to automate vs manually do each day/week?

If I had my perfect world, My social media would be automatic for posts and then I’d  manually do ads and stories depending on the sales we would have so on and so forth. Manually I would also LOVE  the people who have our merchandise to tag us in posts or on stories when they wear our products!

10. If you could give advice to another woman starting her own bizz in the same industry/field, what would it be?

DON’T GIVE UP. It’s going to be hard, it’s going to be frustrating, it’s going to be exhausting. But don’t give up. So many people you don’t even know are rooting for you to succeed and you just have to keep going. Also don’t work 24/7. Do week days to start out and take weekends for yourself and self care. I learned that early on that I can’t mentally or physically do it every single day because you will burn yourself out.

11. Share with our community where they can follow you and your bizz (website, socials, etc)
